![]() And the May 1990 issue included the Oldsmobile Expression, a station wagon that handled like a sport sedan and entertained like a home theater. Although the concept of crossover SUVs-vehicles that are smaller and lighter than traditional truck-bodied SUVs and drive like luxury sedans-would not arrive for several years, the Jeep Wagoneer 2000, discussed in the May 1991 issue, sported design lines that might now remind some of the Porsche Cayenne. With the SRX, a crossover that Robb Report named this year’s Best of the Best SUV, Cadillac has reclaimed its status as a luxury marque. ![]() It was redesigned in 2001 and soon after was drawing the younger drivers Cadillac had long sought. When it debuted in the fall of 1998, the Escalade bore a suspiciously strong resemblance to the Chevy Tahoe. As the next generation of Nissan Leaf is set to trade its hatchback bodystyle for crossover SUV looks, the new Juke will be the smallest EV in Nissan’s lineup – that is, until the new electric Nissan Micra appears in a few year's time. The machine that ultimately led Cadillac out of the wilderness, the Escalade luxury sport-utility vehicle, was not even on automotive designers’ radar screens in the early 1990s. Nissan hopes the new Juke will win buyers away from competing electric crossover SUVs, such as the Hyundai Kona, Jeep Avenger and Peugeot E-2008. Whilst the latter will likely be offered with a choice of 40kWh or 52kWh battery packs, we expect the new Juke, with its bigger dimensions, to arrive with slightly larger batteries than this. Nissan is currently partnered with Renault to develop new EV platforms, meaning the Juke will share its underpinnings with the upcoming electric Renault 5. Is there anything else I should know about the next-generation Nissan Juke? The packaging of an electric car often allows for greater interior space compared to a traditional combustion-engined car, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the new Juke feels roomier than the current model. Clues about the new Juke’s interior are limited, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it maintains the clean, minimalist aesthetic like that found in the Ariya. Dark wheel arch extensions and short front and rear overhangs will help to emphasise the Juke’s squat stance, all whilst maintaining a footprint smaller than that of the Ariya SUV.Ī rear lightbar, similar to that seen on the Ariya and Hyper Punk concept, should feature at the back of the Juke, and the hidden rear door handles found on the current model should be present too. We expect the sharp edges and geometric detailing of the Hyper Punk concept to be the basis of the new Juke’s design language, replacing the curvaceous body lines found on the current model. While some features of the concept are a far stretch from anything we’ll see on our roads anytime soon, including its illuminating wheels and origami-esque bodywork, there are several elements that we believe will make it to the new Juke when it enters production. We expect the new Juke to draw heavily from the styling seen on Nissan’s Hyper Punk concept car, revealed earlier this year at the Tokyo Motor Show. Our exclusive renders provide a glimpse of what the new Juke could look like when it arrives in the near future. As Nissan heads towards an all-electric future in 2030, the current Juke will soon be replaced by a pure EV model, joining the electric Leaf and Ariya SUV. Since its launch in 2010, the Nissan Juke has helped to define the crossover SUV segment, combining a small footprint with tall, bold styling. Shared EV technology with upcoming Renault 5.Likely to have more interior space than the current Juke.
